With a 3-1 dice result, experts say among the best backgammon strategies is to make our 5 point. Not only does a 5 point make us stronger in the game, ignoring our 5 point when a 3-1 comes is risking getting hit unnecessarily at the outset of the game. Remember that the main idea in backgammon is to be the first to get all chips around and borne off the board. The more hits we suffer the less likely we become first to bearing our checkers off the board.
With a dice result of 6-1 our backgammon strategies must be aimed at making our 7 point. The 7 point is another very important point on the board next to the 5 point. If the dice results show 3-2 we bring our back checker up 3 points, 24 to 21, and bring 13 two points down to 11. If the dice results to 4-1 we split the back checker and put one checker chip down, or 24 to 23 and 13 to 9. We may also opt to bring one down and choose to slot our 5 point. With 4-2 we should make our 4 point. These are workable backgammon strategies.
